| Hesburgh Circulation Department Today we honor a Unit which demonstrated both grit and imagination in addressing staffing shortages. In this year of the budget crunch, this Unit was one of the first to lose a staff member. By pulling together, changing work schedules, and altering work routines, the unit preserved service for both external and internal patrons. Staff with extensive years of service, adjusted their lives to absorb night and weekend hours. Juggling vacations, meetings, training sessions, and illnesses – they made certain that patrons were always served promptly and greeted with a smile. Meanwhile, the supervisor worked with colleagues throughout the Library to introduce e-mail over-due notices, “My Account” renewals and recalls, and a Self Check machine. Please join me in congratulating a unit that served as a model of adapting to change – the Hesburgh Circulation Department. Kristie Clark |
