At todays SAC meeting we were visited by Jeffrey Miller from Academic Media Resources. They offer services such as video conferencing that allows a live conference with other people who are not in the same location, through the use of video and computer technology. They are a service center that provides instructors and teaching asst. with A/ V tools for the class room such as laser pointers, boom boxes, cam corders, microphones and etc. Video recording, video production and duplication and conversion services are also some of the other services provided. You may be thinking "why was he there at the meeting" well one of the representatives works there and a lot of us I'm sure that were not aware of these services so she thought it would be nice for him to do a short presentation. These services are not just for faculty they can be used by any department or group on campus. If the use is non academic then there would be a charge. The web site for these services an other information is http://amr.nd.edu and their phone number is 631-0691. Other discussions that were covered were the parking situation at football games. I am sure you all know about the limited availability of spaces to park and the confusion of being informed at the last minute of these changes. We have a representative that works at the JACC that is going to check to where they expect employees to park, so maybe we will have some type of answer by the next meeting which will basically be information for next year since we only have two home games left. The Ad-Hoc committee reported the success of the lunch -n- learn yesterday given by Chef Miller. Talk of upcoming events was also mentioned. Thank you to all of you that participated and offered your feed back it sounds as if it was enjoyed by all. Benefits Committee will meet tomorrow to start discussion of possible benefits that can be offered once the new computer system is up and running. Several questions were brought up in our open discussion. First was
the hiring process for campus jobs, what exactly is the process? Is
there consistency followed by all supervisors in the posting and hiring
process? The topic was brought up about prescriptions not covered by the university such as birth control. The answer was that will probably not happen due to the fact that we are a catholic university and that goes against their belief. Along the lines of prescriptions was the concern of the new mail order system. They encourage everyone to attend the benefits open house. There will be representatives from all of companies involved in our benefits package and so a lot of questions and concerns can be asked there plus the library will be having a benefits presentation here at the library so you can ask questions there also. If any of you travel to the huddle for lunch or break you may have
noticed the awful smell coming from their trash.
