SAC May 2005 Meeting Minutes
This months guest was the editor of the "ND works" newspaper. She spoke about the past year with the ND works and some of her stories. In case you didn't see the article the last edition had a write up about our Library Recognition Awards. If you have an idea for a story, it can be about a certain person or department or an event that is happening you can contact her at mancini.2@nd.edu or NDworks@nd.edu.
I was not aware of this but some of you probably are, when the University prepares the ground for their summer flowers they dig up the spring bulbs and then they are available for the employees. Unfortunately this year they dug them all up last Monday and they were gone before the day was over. So for next year as we see that the flowers are done blooming we will contact Landscaping and see when they will be available. If you like a certain area of flowers you may call them and possibly request those particular bulbs. It was brought up at the meeting that anyone who may be interested in the types of trees that are here on campus the person to contact would be Barbara Hellenthal, she has a complete listing of all of the trees and other plants here on campus.
University Health Services will be closed from May 20th - June 7th . They Health Center will be actively relocating to the old Campus Security Building during this time, so that the planned year long renovation of the present location my commence. In a non emergency situation, services may be provided by a local physician, Med Point or at the emergency rooms of St. Joseph Regional Medical Center or Memorial Hospital depending on your insurance carrier. For all medical emergencies call 911. Employees injured on the job during the time of the temporary closing of health services will follow the guidance of their supervisor and the guidelines that will be provided by the Office of Risk Management. I have placed the flyer that I received at the meeting on the bulletin board.
Starbucks has announced that while the students are gone for the summer they will offer free coffee grounds for anyone who wishes to use them in their garden. This gives Starbucks an opportunity to recycle and reuse their coffee grounds. There is a flyer on the bulletin board that explains the benefits of using coffee grounds in your garden
John Whelan announced that there will be a change in payroll distribution. Those currently receiving weekly paychecks will change to a bi weekly or bi monthly pay period. This will allow for the entire campus to be on the same pay schedule. I do not have a lot of information regarding this decision. What I do know is that there will be a 1 year advance notice and that the University will offer budgeting and finance classes for those who need to adjust to the new pay periods. As I learn of new information I will be certain to pass it on to you, but as of right now that is all of the information that I have.
The next meeting is June 9th, if you have any questions or concerns please let me know.
Thank you,
Joy
