SAC March 2006 Meeting Minutes

Doug Marsh the University Architect was our guest speaker at today's
meeting.
He explained ongoing and upcoming construction plans. I will try to
explain what he told us and I will also have a link to the maps that
show where the roads will be and what roads will be gone.

May 5th is the opening date for the construction on Douglas Rd.. Douglas
Rd. will become 4 lanes from the ND credit union to Burdette, then back
to 2 lanes.
There will be a Roundabout where the 3 way stop was at Ivy and Douglas
(by the golf course).
A Roundabout will take the place of having a traffic light. Roundabouts
keep traffic moving and are more cost efficient than traffic lights.
(the link will give you a better idea of how the Roundabouts work)
For 6 weeks (finished end of June) the west side of Juniper Rd. on
Douglas in front of the credit union up to the Mason service center will
be closed. When completed there will be a traffic light at this
intersection. The small vehicles used by landscaping and maintenance
will have a sensor on them so when they approach the light the light
will automatically change so that they may cross. Pedestrians will have
the button to push that changes the light similar to the ones we use now
on the Juniper crossing.
Just past the Mason service center is where Juniper is closed off (and
has been for quite some time), that will be reopened and the
intersection will be closed  that we use now at Douglas and Juniper.
There will be pedestrian walk ways open that will be safe for pedestrian
use during this time.

The road that goes by Moose Kraus field behind the JACC will connect out
to Edison and over to the performing arts building. The small parking
lot behind the JACC will be gone and become more of a pedestrian area.
It is a highly used pedestrian already with it being so close to Rolfs
and the Guglielmino building.

Ultimate goal is to have Juniper closed to public traffic by August 1st.
Barricades will be place at the end of Juniper by the JACC /Stadium  and
at Douglas Rd.  Access will be for ND service, outside delivery vehicles
and Transpo buses.
Because the opening of the Jordan hall of Science will be in the Fall
2006, Juniper Rd. will not be torn out until the Summer 2007 when there
is less student/faculty traffic to this new building.

B lot South and Parking south of the Stadium will be leveled and
resurfaced to become one lot.

As all of this construction begins and end there will be updates from
the architects put into our ND works paper.
There are no plans to use B and D lots for anything but parking, so we
will not be losing any space. Long term time D6 on the west side of
campus will be used for the new hotel. It is mainly student parking now.
It was brought up that with all of the rerouting of traffic that it
would be nice if a longer turn signal time could be put in place for the
light at Bulla and Juniper. Right now only 3-4 cars can make it through
before it changes. Dough Marsh said he would talk to the county to see
if they could make the signal longer.
Farley hall will be renovated this summer. The indoor driving range will
also be completed this fall.

I have placed the link to the Campus plan below. I think having a visual
of the roads and the future plans is much better than me trying to
explain it. If you have any questions or concerns about the construction
or anything else that you would like addressed at the next meeting
please let me know.
