SAC April 2005 Meeting Minutes

Allen Bigger from Building Services spoke to our group about the "Old to Gold" event being held here on campus in May. The idea came from Penn St. University and their "Trash to Treasure" program that raised over $56,000 last year.

What this event will do is allow the students to donate the items that they would normally leave behind, put in storage, ship home,or as a last resort throw away, this also includes off campus students. The pickup will take place April 25th-May 17th. The volunteer program that will coordinate vehicle logistics and pick-ups will be the Food Bank of Northern Indiana. Sale date will be May 21st from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.. Early Bird special from 7-9:00
a.m. for a donation of $5.00 per person, children under 12 are free. (there is a flyer hanging on the bulletin board with all of the information) The items will be sorted through and only clean ,working items will be sold. The carpets will be measured and rolled so you will know what size and color they are.

The non profit groups that volunteer to help with this event will receive part of the proceeds as a donation to their group. If you know of a non profit group that would be interested in helping you can contact Alan Bigger at bigger.1@nd.edu .

There have some rumors as to the changes that will be made when the new system takes place in July 2006. Some of the rumors brought up at SAC have been loss of sick time, staff that receive weekly paychecks going
to bi-weekly, and etc. Our HR spokes person John  Whelan assured us that nothing has been decided and everything is still in the talking stages. There will be more focus groups as possible changes come up. They want
to consider all options and welcome feedback from all of us as these changes are brought to light. The topic of what the percentage will be for our raise has not yet been decided, that John is aware of.

Next month we will be visited by Gail Mancini from the ND works paper, so if any one has input for either story ideas or your thoughts on the paper itself please let me know so that I can relay them to her.

Thank you,
Joy
