TITLE: Electronic Assessment and Reporting Consultant
DEPARTMENT:  Electronic Resources & Serials Access
RATE:            $40,116/yr - $53,354/yr

DUTIES:

  • Design and develop applications based on open source technologies to organize, analyze and provide access to electronic resources usage data in a manner that facilitates collection decisions. Contribute to access enhancement projects requiring use of PERL, PHP and other web programming skills.
  • Acquire and manage usage statistics for 25,000-plus licensed electronic journals and individual databases, developing or customizing applications to best organize and publish statistics in a manner that facilitates analytic use and understanding by librarians. Analyze best practices regarding standards compliance such as Counter and NISO, and interpret these standards for librarian use. Manage statistics reports available from SFX linking services and Metalib federated search services.
  • Take lead in planning and verifying meaningful e-resources collection reports from Verde (or other Electronic Resources Management service), Systems Data Mart and from the Library’s online catalog system as needed. Report production may entail working with XML format data. Lead assessment collation and reporting for electronic resources as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with ER team to analyze and resolve access problems, taking shared responsibility for user support for access to electronic resources. Communicate effectively and positively with patrons who need assistance.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in an IT area
  • Experience developing and coding interactive web applications using MySQL, PHP, Perl, HTML, XML, CSS and/or other common tools. Solid knowledge of Internet access protocols that enable sophisticated analysis of access problems.
  • Demonstrated expertise in use of Excel, including appropriate use of special functions and advanced techniques.
  • Ability to independently manage detailed work with a high level of accuracy. Excellent problem solving skills in an electronic environment; ability to analyze, investigate and resolve complex problems concerning access.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team where collaboration and collegiality are essential. Must be able to communicate effectively and constructively with patrons, library staff and vendor technical support personnel in order to identify and resolve access difficulties and develop strategies for resource enhancement.

Preferred experience:
Experience using reporting software such as Jasper iReport or Crystal Reports. Ability to manipulate XML data for report management.

SCHEDULE:             Monday - Friday   8:00am - 5:00pm.     40 hours / 12 months
