There are currently four kinds of file space that you need to manage while working in the Libraries.

By default, you are assigned 1 GB (1000 MB) of NetFile space, shown as N: drive on your desktop computer. To find out how much space you currently have available, go to...

This is the newest institutional file space at Notre Dame. DCNS recommends that you NOT generally use N: until you have worked with your DCC and migrated your files to N:.

 

How much AFS space do I have?

As a new employee, you are assigned 500 MB of AFS space, shown as H: drive on your desktop computer. To find out how much space you currently have available, go to...

How much email space do I have?

As a new employee, you have 100 MB of space on the IMAP email server. Log into Webmail to to see how much space is currently available.

Netscape: If you use Netscape Communicator with its default Library configuration for email, all your email (including messages you have read and deleted) stays on the IMAP server. As you can imagine, sooner or later you'll run out of space. You can move folders to N:. Ask you LDCC or contact DCNS. See the Netscape Communicator topic for more information.

Eudora: A few people are still using the POP (Post Office Protocol) server which saves email you have read in your AFS space. This protocol doesn't use any of your 100 MB IMAP space. If your Eudora is configured to use the IMAP protocol (and most in the Libraries are), then all your email stays on the IMAP server...unless you change those settings. Ask your LDCC or contact DCNS. How much local hard drive space do I have?

Windows XP and the vast majority of software installed on your computer is on the C: drive of your computer. You should not save files here. You may save files to D: drive.
