Procedure for handling vocabulary change requests
- Requests for changes to the DDW vocabulary should be sent to terminators-l@listserv.nd.edu
- Members of the TERMinators group make sure the change fits the structure of the DDW vocabulary and that no existing term covers the requested term.
- The chair replies to the requestor with an acknowledgement the request was received, and requests any additional information about the request that may be needed.
- If the request passes TERMinators' review, the chair forwards the proposal to NDLIBWWW, asking for comments. The comment period is one week.
- If no objections are received by the end of the comment period, the chair implements the change by:
- Requesting any needed Aleph global changes
- Send request to Aleph 16 discussion list
- Change will be made on a test server first
- If OK on test server, request that it be made in production server
- Emailing the Aleph 16 discussion list, asking the Library Systems Dept. to update the tag_text.dat file
- Coordinating any needed changes to Aleph records with CADM
- Updating any DDW-only records using the DDW admin module
- Announcing the change on the NDLIBWWW
- If objections are raised, the chair tries to achieve consensus through discussions involving the requestor and the objector. If no consensus is reached, TERMinators will make the final decision.
