Minutes of the Dec. 14, 2005 TERMinators meetingPresent : Nastia Guimaraes, Ben Heet, Mary Lehman, Tom Lehman, Chris Poehlmann, Kathie Ryan-Zeugner, Marina Smyth The goal for this meeting was to wrap up going through the list of resources to be added to the DDW as either Help or Services. The entire discussion centered about the terms "Document Delivery Service" and "Interlibrary Loan". It was generally agreed that they qualify as Services, but there was concern about duplication in the DDW, e.g. are these items too specific since they are covered under Forms and Services? It was argued that items previously selected were more general in nature. This triggered the usual debate about the purpose of this exercise. While more general headings helped us to get started, since one of the goals is to allow each user to customize a personal page giving quick access to the specific services needed by that individual, listing specific services seems desirable. It was finally agreed to retain Interlibrary Loan and to add the following resource under Services: "Faculty Document Delivery Services", the word "Faculty" being added to make it clear from the outset that this is a limited service. For consistency, a corresponding clarification will need to be made in http://www.library.nd.edu/services/index.shtml The recommendation there is to merge the two relevant headings as follows: Faculty Document Delivery Services (NetID required)
We now have no user input to cover both general and very specific needs, do we need a usability study? Surveying one user group is not sufficient, we need a spread faculty/ graduate students/ undergraduate students. An e-mail survey perhaps? A perceived difficulty is explaining briefly something that does not yet exist. It was noted that Eric Morgan has a web group involving some 100 interested faculty, and Collection Development librarians could work with graduate students. Marina Smyth – Recorder |
