Minutes of the Nov. 30, 2005 TERMinators meeting

Present: Kathie Ryan-Zeugner, Chris Poehlmann, Nastia Guimaraes, Mary Lehman, Tom Lehman

We decided to send minutes to NDLIBWWW rather than as LIBANNs from now on. Tom will send out a LIBANN announcing this, encouraging folks to subscribe to NDLIBWWW.

Tom described the procedure for creating DDW cross references that is being developed. TERMinators will receive and decide on requests for new DDW cross references.

After our last meeting, Tom added records to the DDW for the resources we had agreed on classifications for:

  • Help:
    • Ask A Librarian
    • Contacting the University libraries
    • How Do I...?
    • Start My Research
    • Library Hours
  • Services:
    • Ask A Librarian
    • Forms & Services
    • Interlibrary Loan
    • New Titles Services
    • Library Services
    • Course Reserves
    • Electronic Course Reserves

We continued our review of the list of resources we had identified from the "Getting Help," "Library Services" and "Inside ND Libraries" pages as candidates to add to the DDW so they could be pushed out to the campus portal or used to customize pages when those capabilities become available. Several pages have two versions, so we decided to defer considering them until Tom checks to see whether they can be combined.

We noted that there is a wide variety in the scope of the resources. Some resources do one thing (e.g. let you submit a request), while others are lists of links to other pages. Some resources are component parts of other resources we've added to the DDW. Since TERMinators isn't responsible for the content of the DDW, we decided to go ahead with what we have.

Resources we agreed to add to the DDW:

  • Services for teaching (Term: Services)
  • Libraries Frequently Asked Questions (Term: Help)
  • Maps (Term: Help)

We agreed *not* to add "Recommendation for purchase" to the DDW, as faculty mostly send purchase requests to liaisons, and it is available through on the "Forms & Services" page which has been added to the DDW.
