Minutes of the July 1, 2005 TERMinators meeting

We agreed to put forward the proposal to change the term "Maps" to "Maps and GIS". Tom will post to listserv per our protocols.

Hartlib Papers - Discussed the suggestion to add "Formats: Electronic Books and Texts". Discussion was inconclusive. Mark will review the resource to see if current term, "Manuscripts" is the most appropriate. Will discuss again at next meeting.

History of Science, Technology and Medicine - Approved suggestion to add "Research Tools: Indexes and Abstracts" and delete "Bibliography".

In the Heart of Hilander - Discussed suggestion to add "Formats: Multimedia". Discussion was inconclusive. Mark will review the resource again and we will discuss further at next meeting.

Index of Christian Art Database - Approved suggestion to add "Research Tools: Indexes and Abstracts" and remove "Catalog".

Index to United Nations Documents and Publications - Approved addition of "Research Tools: Government Publications".

Medline Plus - Discussed suggested addition of "Research Tools: Encyclopedias" and subject librarian objection. Discussion was inconclusive. Tom will contact SJ to discuss further. Also discussed suggested deletion of "Research Tools: Directories". TERMinators do not approve suggested deletion of "Directories". This case is a good example of why several terms may be needed to reflect different perspectives, depending on subject area.

Discussion of the need for a term to describe "portals" or "megasites" (discipline-specific sites with organized links to related information) resurfaced. We agreed that this discussion will continue in further meetings.

The meeting ended at 11:40AM. Next meeting is Friday, July 8, 2005.
