Minutes of the December 15, 2004 TERMinators meeting

Present: Alan Krieger, Nastia Guimaraes, Mark Dehmlow, Linda Sharp, Cheri Smith, Tom Lehman, Laurie McGowan, Kathie Ryan-Zeugner, Mary Lehman

The group accepted Rick Jones' recommended definition of Chants - "liturgical repertories of monophonic unison melodies (originally unaccompanied) in free rhythm, as distinct from measured music."

Tom will review term definitions beginning with resources, lists of and electronic access to to establish uniformity and eliminate unnecessary verbiage.

We completed review of the list of terms. Revisions follow:

• Libraries will be revised to: Web sites of institutions that identify, acquire, organize, preserve and provide access to information resources.
• The terms Newspapers and Newsletters will be eliminated from the Formats facet. A consolidated term, Newspapers and news sources current or archival reports about noteworthy events, activities or people will appear under the Research Tools facet.
• The group accepted the recommended revision for opera - Dramas or other creative works set to music and made up of vocal pieces with orchestral accompaniment, overtures and interludes.
• Posters and Broadsides will be eliminated from the Formats facet.
• Proceedings will be revised to: Official records of things said or done, usually at a meeting or conference
• Tutorials will be revised to: Instructional resources (usually interactive) that provide practical information about a specific subject
• Weather will be revised to: Web sites providing information about weather

At the next meeting we will have an opportunity to review the structure of the DDW vocabulary that has been created through this process.
