Note: currently, minutes and other TERMinators documentation is being added to the TeamTerminator wiki.

What we do

The TERMinators are responsible for maintaining the vocabulary -- the facets and terms -- that make the library website (known as the database driven website or DDW) work.

The TERMinators are a successor group to SOER (Subject Organization of Electronic Resources)

Who we are

Dan Marmion is our LEC liaison.

Our charge

Description of the group from the minutes:

The group (yet to be named) will:

  1. be responsible for the oversight of the vocabulary used by the database driven website (DDW) with consideration for how it is used by other tools such as Metalib, virtual bases in Aleph, and instructional materials; this includes establishing, maintaining, and making decisions regarding the formal process that handles requests for changes to the vocabulary.
  2. be responsible for communicating changes to the libraries and its staff and faculty.
  3. formulate written guidelines/standards for how the vocabulary is used.
  4. have the authority to make decisions and enforce those decisions with full support from the library administration.
  5. have a membership rotation and structured membership constituency. This could include:
    1. evaluating after ~18 months and determining whether to continue or change.
    2. rotating 1/3 of the membership 6 months.
    3. having core representatives that never rotate out, such as Tom Lehman, and Mary Lehman.
    4. having representation from both collections and services including
CADM, DAIAD, Electronic Resources, Collection Development, Reference, and Instruction.
